Dengie Sponsorship

The Society has recently become sponsored by Dengie which is a huge achievement for us and we are looking forward to the possibilities this will bring. Tracey Hammond from Dengie has also provided us with an embroidered rug and saddlecloth for when we exhibit at shows as well as friendly feeding advice and some excellent raffle prizes for our events! We shall also be appearing on the Dengie website www.dengie.com <http://www.dengie.com/>  so keep an eye out for us! Tracey will also be attending our upcoming events and will be on hand for any feed and nutrition queries.

Breed Show Dates Announced 7/3/10

The 2010 Caspian Breed Show at the Henden and Lanhill Caspian Stud in Wiltshire, will be held on the 22nd August. This is one of the largest gatherings of Caspians in the UK and it always promises to be a fun day out with plenty to see!

The AGM for the Caspian Breed Society will be held the evening beforehand.

New Faces on the Block

We are pleased to announce that our Chairman, Angela Leadbetter, has recently decided to purchase two Caspian fillies and join the elite group of 'Caspian owners!'. We wish her the best of luck with Henden Antikha and Lanhill Antimay and hope to see them again at the Breed Show soon!

A Day of Intelligent Horsemanship with Sarah Weston 19/4/09

Sarah Weston is a Recommended Associate or Intelligent Horsemanship and a holder of the Monty Roberts' Preliminary Certificate in Horsemanship. The day began with Henden Basil, one of our key stallions at the stud, in the round-pen with Sarah and her colleague, Julie Noviss. Basil has always disliked physical contact but Sarah and Julie were able to slowly gain his trust and worked up to stroking him on his neck. after a quick coffee break, we headed outside to watch Sarah dealing with Lily, a four year old part-bred filly, whose over-friendliness was getting a bit much! Further work was done with Charlie, a gelding whose behaviour was a bit 'babyish', Henden Troy, a stallion who was still a bit spooky and Henden Khandan Dokht, a mare that refused to pick her feet up for the farrier. Sarah was careful to take us back to basic ground rules when handling horses and give us tips that we could all try at home. Overall, it was a wonderful day and special thanks must go to the Scott family who kept us all fed and watered throughout the day, and Angela Leadbetter who managed the raffle and stands.

The Bath and West Agricultural Show 27-30/5/09

We have attended the Bath and West Show for many years now and once again, this year was a great success. Many thanks must go to the Mann family, Hilary and Angela who set up the stand and manned it. We had a steady stream of visitors both new and old faces. The Mann family brought along Edcombe Cassima, a two year old filly, to be our Caspian representative on the stand and she was very well behaved.

Breed Show 23/08/09

Despite our CBS Chairman breaking her ankle two weeks earlier and a flood in the house, our annual Caspian Breed Show at Sparrow Farm went ahead. Our judge, Mrs Xanthe Barker-Wild really enjoyed her day and commented on the wonderful movement of the horses and the smooth running of the show. The weather was perfect and all the horses behaved themselves. Congratulations go to Fleur Scott for producing the Supreme Champion, Henden Shilpa (2 year old filly) and Reserve Supreme Champion Anti Eda (9 year old stallion). Debbie Thomson won Supreme Part bred Champion with Darkhorse Apache's Don Juan and Reserve, Darkhorse Donatello. It was also pleasing to see Tracey Hammond manning a Dengie stand with free samples and displays about feeding. Thank you to all who attended and helped out!

Coalacre Al Nadeem

The stud recently received some mixed news from our friends in Sweden. Coalacre Al Nadeem was one of our smallest geldings at only 106.8cm and he'd lived at the Henden and Lanhill Stud for seven years when we had a phone call from a friend from Sweden who was searching for a Caspian under 107cm high. Al Nadeem headed off to Sweden originally to participate in a riding school but soon showed an aptitude for pony racing. He was the first pony ever to qualify to the Scandinavian Championships in just three races! Unfortunately he never got to compete as due to a tragic accident he had to be put to sleep. He was an inspiration to everyone involved with Caspians and we would like to offer our condolences to his owners and his riders.

Horse of the Year Show 7-11/10/09

We were delighted to be invited to exhibit at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show this year and decided to take Lanhill Minoo, a three year old filly, to be on the stand. We were situated in the Interactive Feature Area with several other rare breeds and received a constant flow of visitors to the stand all week! It was extremely busy and we handed out hundreds of leaflets and stickers! We had lots of interest in the breed, from people who had never heard of the Caspian to those that already owned them or had read about them. Overall, an exhausting but extremely successful week!

Your Horse Live 14-15/11/09

We were extremely pleased to be invited back to YHL after a wonderful time in 2008. We once again decided to take Henden Troy, a five year old stallion. We were situated in the Rare Breeds Village where the public could meet Troy and visit the stand. Every day there was a Rare Breeds Parade with each Society putting on an individual show with a commentary about the breed. There was a steady stream of visitors to the stand and so many people turned up to watch the Parade it was standing room only! It was also great to see many repeat visitors to the stand as well as new people interested in learning more about the breed. We also shot to further fame as we were asked to do an interview for Warwick Hospital Radio which was a wonderful opportunity to promote our Caspians! YHL seems to flourish every year and it is an honour to be a part of it.
